Geranium Painting Unflattering Beginnings

I thought you would enjoy seeing the progression of my geranium painting. This painting is on acid-free watercolor board. First I sketch in the subject matter and background with pencil. Then comes very light washes of acrylic paint to block in the main areas of the composition. As you can see the beginnings of this geranium are not too flattering. But don't you think all beginnings are pretty meager. What's important is that at least it gets started - otherwise there's no chance for greatness, beauty, learned lessons...hmmm, even failure! Ah, the value of unflattering failure.

More stages to these beginnings will be forthcoming!

Wishing you light in your beginnings,
Nancy
